PAL Groups Kick-Off Meeting

Successful!!!

The initial Peer Assisted Learning Groups (PAL Groups) meeting was a success! The TRiO Student Support Services students came up with community service activities that they will participate in such as the Blood Drive on Wednesday, November 25th on PCC’s Person Campus. The PAL Groups will be sponsoring a “Food and Toy Drive” for families in need in the Person County area and “Christmas Caroling” for the Person County area nursing homes.

The following were some of the quotes for the SSS students in attendance: “This was fun!” and “Let’s do this again.” The PAL Groups will be meeting on Fridays, 1:30 – 3:30 pm in D-120 for the remainder of the Fall Semester. We will let you know the Spring Semester meeting schedule in January 2010.

PAL Groups is a new service offered in the TRiO Student Support Services program at Piedmont Community College. PAL Groups offer SSS participants the opportunity to:

·        Organize community service activities,

·        Explore careers in a program of study,

·        Receive tutoring & mentoring services in a group setting, and

·        Develop leadership, communication, and academic skills.

Peer Assisted Learning Groups is assisting Student Support Services participants build their academic, career, and personal skills. We want to assist our participants in attaining their goals of graduating from Piedmont Community College and/or transferring to a four year college, and entering the workforce.

The PAL Groups’ activities and events will be posted in the TRiO Newsletter and on the SSS Website (www2.piedmontcc.edu/sss)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the PAL Groups Coordinator, Jeanette Long, at 336-599-1181, extension 251 or longj@piedmontcc.edu.
