This course examines and promotes understanding, sensitivity, awareness, and knowledge of human diversity. Emphasis is placed on professional responsibilities, duties, and skills critical to multicultural human services practice. Upon completion, students should be able to integrate and expand knowledge, skills, and cultural awareness relevant to diverse populations.

1.  Tuesday, August 26, 2008 Golden Rule Activity and paired discussion. Hybrid orientation by Libbie McPhaul-Moore. Homework Survey.  1) Read chapters one and two in Cultural diversity: A primer for the human services and complete the homework assignment in one of the optional forms.  2) Answer the discussion board question for week one on the discussion board by Wednesday at midnight.  3) Respond to at least two fellow students posts by Sunday at 12:00 p.m.  Choose a country/ethnic group to represent in class through food, craft, music, etc.  Email your instructor your choice. 

Extra credit:  Visit a cultural event that is significantly different from your culture.  Write a one to two page paper about the event.
2. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 African American history extra credit quiz. Green haired people exercise and discussion.

1) Submit the week one homework assignment in class (or by class time if done by Blackboard exam).  2)Read chapter I (Homo Stereotypus: Wired for Trouble) in Understanding prejudice and discrimination. 3)Complete the homework assignment for the above chapter, due in class the following week (September 9, 2008)
4) Complete the discussion board assignment by Wednesday at midnight; this will require visiting a website and completing an activity.
