Extra Credit Assignments:

1 & 2) Go to http://understandingprejudice.org/ and click on the logo on the right (third down) that says “Where do you draw the line?”  Take one or both of the interviews: Diet & Lifestyle Choices Interview and Race & Advertising Interview.   Write about the results and the experience of completing the interviews.  The more detailed and specific you are, the more extra credit you can earn. This must be typed.   This is due in two weeks – by October 11, 2007.

3)  Go to the library (or search your own bookshelves) for children’s books, read the books, and think about the messages in the books,- messages about race, religion, gender, abilities, difference, etc. Do not presuppose positive or negative messages; just examine the book for the messages.  Write about the messages you feel are there.  The bring your paper and the book to class and discuss with the class what you have noticed from reading the book.  You can do this for up to five books.  The amount of extra credit will be based on how thoroughly you examine the meanings in the book and your write up about this.  Your write up must be typed.  You can do this for the next four weeks, through October 25, 2007.  You can do one or more books per class, for a total of five, or do it other ways (for example, two books one week, skip a week, another book the following week, etc.).
