This course examines and promotes understanding, sensitivity, awareness, and knowledge of human diversity. Emphasis is placed on professional responsibilities, duties, and skills critical to multicultural human services practice. Upon completion, students should be able to integrate and expand knowledge, skills, and cultural awareness relevant to diverse populations.

ISBN:  0-07-255443-6  (this will be loaned to you from the LRC because it is no longer published, but it is a great resource to have and you can probably find it pretty inexpensively so you may want to get your own copy).

Class Eight:  Thursday, October 13, 2011 Continued discussion from last week, with focus on how subtle bias impacts victim who may not understand source of bias - self-esteem, etc.   Discussion of field trip to Race exhibit, tentatively scheduled for November 17, 2011. Class Ten:  Thursday, October 27, 2011 # 5 from small group activity. Review of tale of Atalanta and then version on Free to Be You and Me. Discussion of fairy tales and their messages and beginning of rewrite of Cinderella in small groups (Lisa, Lisa, Lavern, Misty and Shakira, Bobbi, Frida, Linda).  Will continue with rewrite next week.  
Class Eleven:  Thursday, November 3, 2011 Continuation and completion of Cinderella rewrite - groups:  Rubi, Linda, Shakira and Lavern, Misty and Lisa C.  Discussion of influence of fairy tails.  Discussion of dolls, skin tone, and particularly Barbie dolls.
