1.  Read chapter one in Cultural Diversity: A Primer for the Human Services and answer the questions:
  • How equal are service provider networks in terms of being ethically and culturally balanced?
  • Why is it important to become culturally competent?
  • When clients react to a provider from a different culture, and providers react to clients of different cultures, what is the most effective way to deal with these reactions?
  • What terms should you use when referring to specific ethnic groups?
  • What is the definition of an ethnic group? (Generally, not specific to a particular group)
  • As the author uses the terms, define People of Color, Whites, and White ethnics.
