Hello my name is Carla Y.Johnson-Smith. I am
34 years old and the mother of 4 beautiful children. Lamar, Shamira, Autumn,
and Nicholas. I am currently employed with Family Connections, an Intensive
Family Preservation Program of Cooperative Extension. I attended PCC from
1994-1996. During my enrollment there I obtained the skills that has helped me
provide services to families in Person County. Some of the skills like
communication has allowed me to work with diverse populations to help make an
impact on the families that I serve. My educational experience at PCC helped me
to change my entire perspective and broaden my horizons. I received my AAS
degree from PCC in 1996. I am very glad that I attended PCC and the training I
received has helped me to better increase my self perspective to continue to
pursue a higher education. I am currently a student at Shaw University in
Raleigh, where I will graduate in May 2004 with my BASW. I feel that if I had
not attended PCC and gained a better understanding of society and the impact the
social welfare system has on families, I would not be as effective in my
community. Thanks to PCC I am a more well-rounded and
influential person in my community.

Carla and April Duckworth graduated on May 8, 2004 from Shaw University with their Bachelor's degree!
