My name is Pamela Michelle Bowman.

I was born on February 21, 19??, in South Boston, Virginia. I have two sisters Dawn and Tia; seven brothers Marshall, William, Kevin, DeRonta’, DavRick, Wyllyam, and TeeRoy. My wonderful mother name is Karen and my respected father name is William Dunn.

I was lead to Piedmont Community College in June of 2006, after learning of the place I was employed (Collins & Aikman) was relocating. I became interested in the Human Services Program after completing a Career/Skills Inventory in NetWorks, a class offered by the college through Human Resources Development. The inventory showed I had a high interest in customer relations.

In the Human Service Program I have learned that in order to help others you must know who you are as an individual. I have learned that being able to assist others need you as a Human Service provider must be able to understand that it is the needs of the clients which need to be met. And in order for this to happen the provider must be able to have the necessary skills and characteristics such as active listening, empathy, caring & genuineness, and be able to empower clients. The information I have learned thus far has changed me because I now have a cleared more in-depth understanding of who Pamela is. I used to think that I could make everyone /everything better and put myself on the back burner. I have now realized that I must know my own strengths and weaknesses so that I can be an effective member of society, as well as, a Human Service Professional. I feel a change within myself through my studies; I have learned my limits and learned how to use those limits so that I am still an effective person. I am still hoping to learn time management. This is one of my weakest points. Although I do write out my weekly obligations, somehow I get off track, but I have not lost my focus. I am not certain on in which field I will begin my new career. I have so many interest and have discovered so many new talents about myself it makes the decision a bit difficult to decide where my skills and characteristics would be most effect in the Human Services Profession. I would like to take this chance to give a special thank the Human Service Instructors and all the personnel at Piedmont Community College for enhancing and empowering me in such settle ways which allowed me to recognize that I am capable and valuable person. Thank you very much, Pamela M. Bowman.
