Ordinary People

This assignment should be typed, and be submitted by Wednesday, April 30, 2005 in class, and will be your make-up assignment for the snow day this semester. You will need to rent or borrow the videotape.

Class Assignment

After watching the movie, based on the novel by Judith Guest, answer the following questions:

1)      Identify the strengths in the following characters:

a.       Conrad

b.      Calvin

c.       Beth

d.      Dr. Berger

e.       Karen

2)      What interviewing skills were used by Dr. Berger?  Please be specific and detailed in your answer, with examples.

Extra Credit Assignment:

*There is no set limit on pages for this.  The more thorough and detailed you are, the more extra credit points you can earn, up to 35 points.

Write an imaginary dialogue with you as the interviewer, and the following individuals as clients, starting after you have asked them what brings them in today.  This will require you to both think about the characters and how they might respond (including visitor, etc.), and the skills you would need to use with that client to develop a relationship and begin to address the presenting issues.
